The Basics of Roullete
Roullete (or Roulette) is a casino game that combines simple rules with a surprising level of depth for serious bettors. It can be played both online and in land casinos, with players putting chips down on the numbers or groups of numbers they think will be lucky. A little knowledge and the right strategy can result in huge payouts.
The simplest version of the game involves a spinning wheel and a small ball that must come to rest in one of the compartments on the rim of the wheel. The number of compartments is 36, with each being painted alternately red and black. A 37th compartment carries the sign 0 on European wheels, while American roulette has two green zero compartments on opposite sides of the wheel.
A player wagers on which of the 36 numbered pockets on the wheel the ball will fall into by placing chips on a table map that corresponds with the compartments on the rim. Bets can also be made on groups of six or more numbers – known as the Dozens and Columns bets – which pay out at odds of 2-1.
After the dealer clears winning chips from the table, the betting process starts. Players can choose to start with either an Inside or Outside bet, but it is advisable to use the predetermined budget and not dip into your winnings for subsequent bets.
In the US, roulette has one of the smallest followings for any casino game, with nowhere near the popularity of slot machines, video poker, blackjack or craps. However, the game still draws large crowds in Europe, particularly in Monte Carlo. Some gamblers try to beat the maths by using systems such as watching other players, hoping that they know something the others don’t, or doing the opposite of what their opponents do. However, this can only improve your chances of luck by a tiny margin and does not make any difference to the odds.
